Almost one year ago to the day, I spoke with Caroline Jacobson about her incredible portrait work. We spoke about how important and amazing it is to feature strong independent women in art (and everything else) and her newest series “Pour It Up” is another example of this. Caroline has been doing great things and her work has continued to grow alongside her. Each of the following drawings is accompanied with the lyrics that inspired the artist. If you’re in Chicago this month check out Caroline’s show Indelicate at @locallective which opened on the 13th and will be running for the rest of Novemeber!
Anything new going on since we last spoke? New projects? Anything exciting in the works?
Yeah I started school at SAIC and its been a great experience so far. I recently got into a show called Indelicate at @locallective in Chicago and it opens Nov. 13th! The show explores the female experience and it’s going to be badass! If you’re in the Chicago area, you should definitely come!
This series, "Pour it Up," what inspired it?
As a woman, there is a constant push pull between being told to be “pure,” while at the same time being told to be a freak hoe. I’m just tired tired of being told what my sexuality is supposed to be and how the expression of it should be filtered/actualized. I’m over of the entire concept of the “supposed to be.” I really don’t need to be tamed or controlled; I am a woman, and I am who I am.
